The 2M alliance has officially launched cooperation with Hyundai Merchant Marine
On March 15, heads of Maersk Line, Mediterranean Line and Hyundai Merchant Marine signed an agreement to officially launch strategic cooperation between the 2M alliance and Hyundai Merchant Marine on East-west route trade.
The strategic tie-up between the 2M alliance and Hyundai Merchant Marine is understood to include a series of ship swaps and ship purchases on east-west routes, as well as Maersk Line and Mediterranean Line taking over some of the ships chartered and operated by Hyundai Merchant Marine. The agreement has an option to extend for up to three years.
Maersk Line Asia Pacific CEO Robbert van Trooijen said the 2M alliance believes this strategic partnership is a win-win cooperation for both parties. Maersk Line's customers will have more choice in trans-Pacific trade, while Hyundai Merchant Marine's customers will also be able to take advantage of Maersk Line's strong Asia-Europe line.
Maersk Line CEO Søren Toft said the strategic partnership will enable Maersk Line to strengthen its 2M network position in Pacific trade.
The 2M alliance signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hyundai Merchant Marine in December 2016. The agreement is scheduled to take effect in April 2017, subject to regulatory approval.
